Call
for Nominations: 2008 Erlang Prize
The Applied Probability Society of
INFORMS (APS) is currently
soliciting nominations for the 2008 award of the bi-annual Erlang
Prize. The
Erlang Prize is awarded to a young researcher who has made outstanding
contributions
to applied probability. It is a prestigious award, providing
recognition for exceptional achievement in the early stage of one's career. The
previous winners are: Dimitris Bertsimas, Xiuli Chao, Jim Dai, David Gamarnik,
Paul Glasserman, Steven Kou, Balaji Prabhakar, Kavita Ramanan, David Tse, and Larry Wein.
The prize consists of a plaque and a
$1000 check. The Prize will be awarded at the INFORMS annual meeting in
Washington, DC. The winner will be notified approximately one month prior to
the meeting. Presentation of the Prize will be made by a member of the
APS Awards Committee.
This year's Awards Committee consists of Jim Dai
(chair), Paul Glasserman, and Avi Mandelbaum. The rules that govern the prize

Briefly, the rules are as follows:
- anyone who is 35 or younger on January 31st, 2008 is
eligible for
nomination, and
- nominations can be made by anyone,
- nominations
consist of a description of the significance of the nominee's work and
supporting documents,
- nominations should
be sent to each member of the Awards Committee at the addresses listed
below by July 15th, 2008 (nominations will be held in confidence),
and
- decisions of the
Awards Committee are final.
